PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Buzz Bombada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gota Yo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yo is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Pass Out. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Buzz Bombada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gota Yo!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bombada avoids a punch combination nicely.
Bombada shoots in for a double leg but Yo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Some wild striking there from Yo.
Gota Yo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yo lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Yo misses with the combination.
Yo misses with a straight left.
No joy there for Yo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Bombada shoots in but Yo avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Yo throws a nice looking combination but Bombada bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Yo misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sloppy strikes from Yo. Those never looked like landing.
Bombada tries for a takedown but Yo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Bombada closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Yo to the mat! Yo manages to get full guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Bombada distracts Yo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bombada accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Yo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bombada controls the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Buzz Bombada wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Bombada takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

and Bombada counters with a nice double leg into side control. Yo won't be happy with that.

Bombada is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Bombada has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bombada works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Yo prevents Bombada from improving position.
Bombada throws an elbow but Yo slips to the side and avoids it well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bombada postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Yo stalks Bombada and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Bombada's face. Bombada staggers backwards, shaken.

Bombada tries for a takedown but Yo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Bombada keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gota Yo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Bombada shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Bombada looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Bombada working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Yo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bombada winds up and cracks Yo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Bombada's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bombada, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
