The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hovila instigates a clinch.

Hovila has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Smith clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Hovila is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Smith has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Hovila is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Smith is defending well though. Hovila let's go of the attempt for now.
Hovila doesn't have the hooks in and Smith manages to turn into his guard.
Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Hovila is retaining full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hovila isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Smith stacks Hovila on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Smith!

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hovila tries to bench press Smith off him but Smith keeps the position.
Hovila is breathing heavily.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hovila keeps working.
Smith works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Hovila is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hovila is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Smith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Smith is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hovila knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hovila sneaks back into half guard.

Hovila is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots.

Hovila wants to get back to his feet.
Smith is trying to control. Hovila wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Smith can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hovila is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith prevents Hovila from getting the reversal.

Smith darts in and clinches Hovila up against the cage.
Smith has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hovila after a bit of a struggle.

Hovila drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Smith manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hovila has Smith in his guard.

Smith stands up from mount. Strange move.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hovila enables Smith to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hovila manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Hovila turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Smith off and cradles Hovila's limp body as Smith celebrates with his corner.
