The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ghirardi closes the distance and clinches.
Ghirardi stops a takedown attempt from Jones.

Jones is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ghirardi can't fight it off and eventually Jones manages to take the fight to the floor. Ghirardi looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Jones thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jones stands and steps away. Ghirardi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jones enables Ghirardi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jones manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Ghirardi is trying to move to mount but Jones reverses beautifully and ends up in Ghirardi's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ghirardi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jones is aware though and is defending well.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ghirardi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ghirardi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jones drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jones jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Jones wants to control from the top but Ghirardi keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ghirardi has managed to clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Ghirardi's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ghirardi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ghirardi tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.

A close round but Boston Jones will probably get the nod.

Jones takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Ghirardi is trying to stick to Jones's back but Jones is turning into Ghirardi. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Ghirardi's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Jones.

Ghirardi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Ghirardi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jones is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Ghirardi looks calm but he's in trouble here. Jones gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Ghirardi is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Jones lets go of the hold and Ghirardi can pop his arm back in it's socket.
