PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hung Dong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spider Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dong comes into the arena with Lollipop - BIGBANG and 2NE1 blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hung Dong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Spider Machida!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dong moves in looking to clinch but Machida pushes him off.
Machida misses with a body shot.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Dong turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Dong manages to end up in side control.
Dong landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Dong trying to control the position but Machida is working away.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A lull in the action here as Dong stalls from top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dong wants to control but Machida is keeping him busy.
Dong throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Dong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Machida keeps working.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Hung Dong just wasn't active enough.

Dong closes the distance and pushes Machida back into the cage.
Machida tries to work over Dong's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Machida lands a left hand.
Dong tries for a takedown. No joy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dong on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Dong has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Machida is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Dong is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hung Dong. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Machida misses with a body punch.
Dong landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Machida is pressed up against the cage. Dong has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Machida down to the mat. Machida avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Machida uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dong.
Machida misses with a low kick.
Machida dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Machida swings for the body but Dong moves out of range.

Dong drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Machida swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Machida thuds his right hand into Dong's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Spider Machida is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Machida lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Machida cracks Dong with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dong is defended easily by Machida.
Machida stuns Dong with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Machida jabs Dong right on the nose. Dong blinks but takes it well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dong takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Machida smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Dong throws a sloppy head kick and Machida moves out of range easily.

A close round but Spider Machida will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Machida ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Dong takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Spider Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Machida connects with a body shot that sends Dong's belly button to the back.
Machida lands a head shot.
Dong looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Dong shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Machida's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Machida is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Machida slows the pace down in half guard.

Dong is looking to improve his position.

Dong might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Machida gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Dong.

Machida frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Machida tries to control but Dong wriggling away.
Machida prevents Dong from getting the reversal.
Hung Dong overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Dong wants to control but Machida is having none of it.

Machida wants to control the pace but Dong is squirming around nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dong is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spider Machida showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Machida throws a right hand that Dong ducks under and follows up with a left that Dong also avoids with ease.
Machida tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dong was well out of range. Poor timing from Machida.
Machida misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Dong throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machida's waist but Machida gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dong off to one side.

Dong shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Machida defends it nicely.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Spider Machida comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
