PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Josh Kurt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Humphrey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Josh Kurt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brian Humphrey!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Humphrey throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Kurt drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Humphrey is trying to get back to half guard.
Humphrey is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Humphrey struggling a bit here.
Humphrey is not content to let Kurt control the position.
Humphrey is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kurt off and has taken his back!
Kurt looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Humphrey is persistently looking for the submission but Kurt is defending it well.

Humphrey looking for the choke from the back.

Humphrey is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Kurt has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Humphrey looking to break Kurt's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Kurt remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Humphrey will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Humphrey is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Kurt is defending well though. Humphrey let's go of the attempt for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Humphrey.

Humphrey has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Humphrey has the hooks in. Kurt is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Humphrey dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Humphrey changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kurt looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kurt can't do much from the bottom here.
Kurt is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Humphrey is looking to take a break and control but Kurt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kurt looking for a sweep but Humphrey has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Humphrey thowing shots but they're missing.
Humphrey lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Kurt is looking to get to half guard.
Humphrey scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Kurt?
Kurt tries to lock up and control but Humphrey gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Humphrey is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kurt is surviving well by controlling Humphrey's body position as best he can.
Kurt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Humphrey on the ground.

Humphrey has hold of Kurt's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kurt manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Humphrey jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kurt manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Humphrey tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Humphrey is trying to get an arm triangle but Kurt is defending well.
Kurt is trying to get back to half guard.
Kurt takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Kurt managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Humphrey.
Kurt is trying to control Humphrey's posture but Humphrey avoids it.
Brian Humphrey has got the better of the ground game so far.

Humphrey cracks Kurt with a big elbow.
Humphrey in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Humphrey decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kurt to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Humphrey shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kurt as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Humphrey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Humphrey tries to bum rush Kurt with a series of wild strikes but Kurt uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
No joy there for Humphrey, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Humphrey jumps guard but Kurt turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Humphrey tries to break free but Kurt pushes him back against the cage.

Kurt pulls guard.
Humphrey is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Kurt will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kurt looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kurt is trying to hold Humphrey in close to prevent damage but Humphrey has managed to pass into half guard.
Humphrey prevents Kurt from improving his position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Humphrey decides to return to a standing position.
Kurt doesn't manage to clinch there - Humphrey circles away.
Humphrey has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kurt closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kurt lands in his opponent's guard.

Humphrey looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Humphrey is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kurt defends well.

Kurt trying to control the position from guard on top but Humphrey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Humphrey looking for a triangle here. Kurt is fighting it but it looks tight! Humphrey pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Kurt is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Brian Humphrey!
After winning the bout, Brian Humphrey thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
