PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rickey Colbey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Captain Tiba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Rickey Colbey has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rickey Colbey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Captain Tiba!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colbey fails with an attempt to clinch.
Colbey misses with a series of wild punches.
Tiba swats away the attempt to clinch by Colbey.
Colbey wants to clinch but Tiba slips to the side
and Tiba counters with a nice leg kick.
Colbey misses with the combination.
A bone on bone clash there as Tiba blocks the leg kick.
Colbey looks for the body kick but Tiba saw that one coming.
Colbey tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Tiba counters with a single leg into guard. Colbey didn't expect that.

Tiba stands and throws Colbey's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Tiba moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tiba working the body and head with strikes.
Tiba creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Colbey sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Colbey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tiba on the ground.
The referee asks Tiba politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Tiba prefers to stall for the moment though.
Colbey is not content to let Tiba control the position.
Tiba cracks Colbey with a big right hand but Colbey just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Colbey tries to escape but Tiba is in control.
Colbey is working to avoid the ground and pound but Tiba connects with a decent elbow.

Tiba is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Colbey knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Colbey tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tiba wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tiba is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Colbey is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tiba is putting a hurting on Colbey here, landing some big shots from side control.

Tiba works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Colbey pushes Tiba away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tiba gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Colbey is breathing heavily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Tiba lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Tiba tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tiba has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Tiba is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Colbey's shoulder. That is not cool.

Tiba is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Colbey has escaped the position, nice work there.

Tiba wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Colbey, who protects the arm well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tiba is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Colbey will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tiba landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Colbey is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Tiba asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Tiba lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Colbey down.
Colbey is not content to let Tiba control the position.
Tiba landing strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Captain Tiba dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Tiba clinches with his opponent.
Tiba has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Colbey is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Tiba throws a knee to the head but misses.
Colbey wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Tiba unloads a knee to the mid-section. Colbey lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Tiba gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Tiba is keen to just control but Colbey is a slippery customer.
Tiba seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tiba is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Colbey keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Tiba has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Tiba has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Tiba passes to full mount!

Tiba has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Colbey is forced to tap!
