PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Richard Hosnia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Leissner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leissner has chosen Feuer Frei as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Richard Hosnia has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Richard Hosnia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nate Leissner!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksandr Martynov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leissner tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hosnia swivels and escapes.
Leissner shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hosnia pinned against the cage. Hosnia gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Leissner throws a quick inside leg kick.
Leissner misses with a double jab.
Hosnia really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Leissner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Richard Hosnia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nate Leissner.
Hosnia tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hosnia feints and then cracks Leissner's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Leissner down.

and Hosnia counters with a head kick.

Nice sprawl there from Hosnia as Leissner shoots in.
Hosnia throws a leg kick but Leissner sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Hosnia wants to slow Leissner down by chopping away at his legs.
Leissner shoots in for a takedown but Hosnia shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Leissner counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Hosnia thinking.

Hosnia has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Leissner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hosnia wants to improve his position but Leissner is controlling well.
Hosnia is trying to stand back up but Leissner is controlling him

Leissner working over Hosnia with some ground and pound. Hosnia looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Leissner dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Leissner fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hosnia to the ground. Leissner is now in Hosnia's guard.
Leissner throws a big elbow that misses.
Leissner is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Hosnia lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Leissner!

Hosnia can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Leissner is looking to escape.

Hosnia is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Leissner has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Leissner!

Leissner is working Hosnia over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Leissner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hosnia swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Nate Leissner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hosnia looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Leissner has picked Hosnia up and slammed him! Hosnia can't keep hold of the triangle and Leissner manages to pass to side control!

Leissner swings around for an armbar but Hosnia sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Leissner's guard.
Hosnia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Leissner swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Leissner is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hosnia passes Leissner's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Hosnia will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Leissner is not content to let Hosnia control the position.
Leissner makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Leissner.

Leissner wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Leissner escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hosnia gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
