PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between JD Valentine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Nash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nash has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, JD Valentine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin Nash!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Damien Edna and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nash throws a right and a left that Valentine avoids nicely.
Nash looks gassed!
Valentine tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nash paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Valentine tries a head kick but it misses.
Valentine is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Valentine counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Valentine has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Nash is proving hard to escape from.
Valentine knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nash on the ground.
Nash tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Valentine wanted to stand there but Nash had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nash is looking for a triangle but Valentine pushes his legs off easily.
Valentine wants to stand but Nash has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Nash looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Nash has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Valentine can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Valentine stands and steps away. Nash gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Kevin Nash seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nash swats away the attempt to clinch by Valentine.
Valentine pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nash checks the leg kick.
Valentine tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nash avoids the head kick by Valentine.

Valentine looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Valentine is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Nash is trying to stand.
Valentine tries to stand and escape but Nash is controlling the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nash wants to get back to his feet.
Valentine tries to stand but can't do so whilst Nash controls his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nash dives in and grabs Valentine's left leg, looking for a takedown. Valentine pushes down on Nash's head and hops out.
Nash takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Nash moves out of range of the body kick from Valentine.

Valentine gets a double leg takedown into Nash's guard.
Valentine wants to stand but Nash is controlling his posture from full guard.
Valentine might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Nash looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Valentine wanted to stand there but Nash had control of the position.
Valentine trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nash keeping moving, preventing Valentine from controlling successfully.

Nash looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Nash is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Valentine defends well.
Valentine is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Valentine wants to get up but he can't break Nash's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Nash wants to stand and escape but Valentine is having none of it.

Valentine avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Nash working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Valentine doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Valentine manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Valentine prevents Nash from getting back to his feet.

Nash throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Valentine escapes and throws Nash's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Valentine tries to stand but Nash is controlling his head.

Nash tries to improve position but can't.
Nash wants to get back to his feet.

Nash prevents Valentine from improving position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nash can do anything to dispel that myth.
Nash gets back to half guard.
Valentine wants to stand up but Nash has a hold of him and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Nash has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Valentine. Oh but Nash has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Valentine goes limp - he's gone! Nash jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
