The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quintana scores with a jab.
Ruy fails in his attempt to clinch.

Quintana leaves Ruy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ruy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Quintana moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Matt Ruy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Quintana tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Ruy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Quintana lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ruy backs up against the ropes.

Ruy tries to close the distance and clinch but Quintana swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Quintana lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Quintana.

and Quintana counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Ruy is lucky that one didn't land flush.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ruy misses with a takedown attempt - Quintana sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Ruy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Quintana's waist but Quintana gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ruy off to one side.

Ruy shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ruy was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Ruy has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Quintana's face.

Ruy throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Quintana because Ruy loaded up on that one.
