Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Columbo Gatti and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez lands a jab to the head.
Maxey gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Alvarez.
Maxey walks into a stiff left hand from Alvarez.
Alvarez stuffs the takedown.
Alvarez connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Maxey tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Alvarez swivels and escapes.
Alvarez's jab looks to have found its range, popping Maxey under the eye.

Maxey is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Maxey lands with a nice combination. Alvarez backs away looking to recover.

Alvarez lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Maxey backs up against the cage.
The fight stays on the outside here - Alvarez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Alvarez connects with a good right hand that stumbles Maxey. Maxey circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
The crowd cheers as Alvarez lands an impressive looking overhand right. Maxey doesn't seem phased though.
Maxey shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jaxon Maxey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maxey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Alvarez's waist but Alvarez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maxey off to one side.
Alvarez connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Maxey takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Maxey dives in and grabs Alvarez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Alvarez pushes down on Maxey's head and hops out.
Nick Alvarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maxey is breathing heavily.
Alvarez jabs Maxey to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Maxey gets caught napping as Alvarez dives in and scores a takedown. Maxey manages to retain guard.

Maxey will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nick Alvarez was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Maxey closes this distance looking for a takedown but Alvarez circles away.
Alvarez fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Alvarez fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Maxey on the side of the head.
Maxey moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Maxey walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alvarez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Maxey is staying active underneath Alvarez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Maxey is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Alvarez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Alvarez's back!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Alvarez rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Maxey is keen to just control but Alvarez is a slippery customer.

Maxey thows a huge punch but Alvarez dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alvarez is looking for a triangle but Maxey pushes his legs off easily.
Alvarez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Maxey defends well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Maxey distracts Alvarez with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Alvarez is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Maxey has his hands clasped together but Alvarez extends an breaks Maxey's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Alvarez.

In his post fight interview, Nick Alvarez started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
