PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Walter Chestnut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Renton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chestnut comes into the arena with Albatross, Albatross, Albatross blaring out of the sound system. Renton is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Underworld - Born Slippy. Mark Renton is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walter Chestnut!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Renton!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Chestnut there.
Chestnut fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Renton looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Renton gets a double leg takedown into Chestnut's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Renton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chestnut swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Chestnut tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Renton throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Renton is in close to Chestnut's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Renton trying to control but Chestnut is working from the bottom.
Renton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chestnut swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Chestnut escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Renton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Renton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chestnut has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Renton has managed to get both his arms back between Chestnut's legs - danger averted.

Chestnut working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Renton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Renton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Renton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Chestnut ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Renton dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Renton cracks Chestnut with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Chestnut rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Renton moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Renton slips a jab and a cross from Chestnut.
Walter Chestnut seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Renton uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Chestnut.

Chestnut has control of Renton's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Renton regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Chestnut wants to control but Renton is keeping him busy.

Chestnut is working for a submission of some sort.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chestnut is thwarting Renton's attempts to control the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chestnut wants to free his trapped foot but Renton is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Mark Renton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Renton looks to land a combination but Chestnut avoids it well.

Renton has hold of Chestnut's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Chestnut manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Renton is landing with some decent strikes but Chestnut is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Renton lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Renton cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Renton unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Chestnut wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Renton celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
