The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gutz circles away from the clinch attempt.

Palavra shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Palavra trying to pass the guard but Gutz defending well.
Gutz is pressing down on Palavra's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Palavra wants to control from the top but Gutz keeps moving.
Palavra is looking to work some ground and pound but Gutz has wrist control.
Palavra slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Gutz tries to reverse the position but Palavra maintains control.

Gutz tries to lock up and control but Palavra gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Palavra lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Palavra works his way into side control.
Gutz defending against the ground and pound.
Palavra is looking to take a break and control but Gutz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Palavra works to advance to full mount. Gutz defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Gutz can't escape the position.
Gutz wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Palavra.
Palavra scoring with strikes but Gutz is staying in there.
Gutz wants to control but Palavra is having none of it.
Palavra raining down hammerfists from mount.

Palavra lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Palavra has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Gutz's face.
Gutz sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Gutz manages to get to full guard.

Palavra tries to free his leg and advance position but Gutz is retaining full guard.

Gutz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Palavra!
Palavra can't escape the position.
Gutz is in the full mount, landing strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gutz breaks from Palavra's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Gutz lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Palavra hang on?
Palavra keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Gutz unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Palavra wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Gutz celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
