Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Duke Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitch Layden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Duke Richard has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Duke Richard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Mitch Layden!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Richard looking to score a takedown here. Layden is defending well but Richard drives through and ends up in Layden's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Richard postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Layden is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Richard, into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Layden stops Richard from standing up.
Layden missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Layden thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Layden forces his way into half guard.

Layden is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Richard is just riding it out for now. Layden eventually gives up the hold.

Richard wants to get back to his feet.
Richard wants to control but Layden is keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Layden is just content to waste time from the top position. Richard takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Richard preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Layden trying to control the position from guard on top but Richard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Richard is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Layden is aware though and is defending well.

Layden distracts Richard with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Layden sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Layden throws an elbow that misses. Richard uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Layden's guard. Nice move by Richard!

Layden looking to hit a scissor sweep but Richard is one step ahead there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Layden working for a triangle but Richard defends it easily.

Layden has his foot on Richard's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Richard works his way back into a safe position though.
Richard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Layden swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Richard drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Layden manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Richard has Layden in his guard.
Layden stands up over Richard, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Richard wants to control the position but Layden says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Layden is keen to just control but Richard is a slippery customer.
Layden is thwarting Richard's attempts to control the position.
Layden is nestled in close to Richard, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Layden has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Still in half guard, Layden seems content to control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Richard wants to improve his position but Layden is controlling well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Richard gets caught flat footed, as Layden shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Layden pushes down on Richard's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Layden thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Richard's head.
Layden throwing shots but Richard is blocking nicely.

Layden is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Layden seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Richard is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
