Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rory Markman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zhang Zhu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zhang Zhu has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rory Markman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zhang Zhu!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Lou da Vinci and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zhu lands a head kick!
Markman shoots in looking for a takedown but Zhu manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Markman's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Zhang Zhu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zhu takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Zhu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Markman wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Markman gets a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Zhu wants to control but Markman is keeping busy.
Markman prevents Zhu from standing back up.
Zhu has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Markman is working away from the top position though.

Markman is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Zhu has managed to free his arm - good work.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zhu can do anything to dispel that myth.

Zhu wants to get back to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Markman working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Markman is working for a kimura but Zhu is defending it quite comfortably.

Markman is looking to take a break and control but Zhu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Zhu has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Markman is working away from the top position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Markman lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Zhu stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zhu wants it to stay on the feet.

Markman throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Markman looks to land a combination. Zhu sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
A jab lands there for Markman.

Zhu scores a takedown into full mount!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Markman bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Markman is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zhu is trying to keep Markman in close.
Markman won't allow Zhu to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rory Markman dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Zhu slips under a jab.
Markman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Zhu sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Markman somewhat.

Zhu closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Zhu lands in his opponent's guard.
Zhu is fighting to break Markman's control of his arms but Markman is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Markman is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Zhu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Markman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Markman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Markman is on top in guard.
Markman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Zhu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Markman wants to pass the guard but Zhu is keeping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Zhu closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Markman quickly recovers to half guard.
Markman slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Rory Markman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Zhu wants to control from the top but Markman keeps moving.
Markman manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Zhu is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Markman has hold of Zhu's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Zhu manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Markman postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Zhu looks a forlorn figure.

Zhu takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Markman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Zhu is trying to stand.

Markman swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
