PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Bateman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Genival Lacerda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bateman comes to the cage accompanied by Dio - Push. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Genival Lacerda!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lacerda with a poor takedown
and Bateman counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Genival Lacerda has been cut.
Bateman throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Lacerda closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bateman to the mat! Bateman manages to get full guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Lacerda drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Bateman dives on top into guard.

Bateman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lacerda has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bateman has managed to get both his arms back between Lacerda's legs - danger averted.

Bateman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Bateman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bateman dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Lacerda drives through with a takedown into Bateman's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Lacerda stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bateman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bateman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lacerda on the ground.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lacerda is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Lacerda wants to take a breather but Bateman is having none of it.

Nice takedown defense from Bateman. No joy for Lacerda on that attempt.
Genival Lacerda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Brock Bateman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Genival Lacerda.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lacerda tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bateman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lacerda somewhat.

Bateman lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lacerda circles away quickly and effectively.
Bateman thuds his right hand into Lacerda's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Lacerda fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bateman avoids it really well and circles away.
Brock Bateman is winning the standup battle so far.
Lacerda shoots in looking for a takedown. Bateman tries to sprawl out of it but Lacerda keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bateman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lacerda is breathing heavily.

Bateman wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Bateman will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Bateman scores with a jab. Lacerda acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Lacerda dives in and grabs Bateman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bateman pushes down on Lacerda's head and hops out.

This has been an exciting period of action!

You get the feeling that Bateman really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Lacerda is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Lacerda!
