The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Balanga feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Balanga looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Lao Jr looking to control.
Balanga stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lao Jr swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lao Jr is looking for a triangle but Balanga pushes his legs off easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lao Jr is on top in guard.
Lao Jr slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Balanga holds on to Lao Jr's head and controls the position momentarily.
Balanga is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Lao Jr working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Balanga tries to improve position but can't.

Lao Jr thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Balanga tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lao Jr wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
