PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roy Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggie Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson's entrance music is Metallica Whisky in the jar . A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roy Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Reggie Simpson!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Simpson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Nelson on his heels. He'll look to pass Nelson's guard now, I'm sure.

Nelson uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Nelson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Simpson's waist but Simpson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nelson off to one side.
Simpson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Simpson stuffs the takedown attempt from Nelson. Nelson gets slowly back to his feet.
Nelson misses with a takedown
and Nelson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roy Nelson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Simpson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Simpson is looking to take a break and control but Nelson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Nelson manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Simpson looks gassed!

Simpson drives through and clinches with Nelson against the cage.

Simpson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nelson.

Nelson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Simpson, who protects the arm well.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simpson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Simpson is pushing Nelson's head away, looking to escape. Nelson manages to hold on to the position though.

Nelson is putting a hurting on Simpson here, landing some big shots from side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nelson advances to full mount.

Nelson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Simpson has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Nelson has control of Simpson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Simpson regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Simpson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Simpson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Nelson has hold of Simpson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Simpson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Nelson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Simpson looks a forlorn figure.

Simpson is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Nelson locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Simpson is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Roy Nelson!
A very excited looking Roy Nelson made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
