PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan has chosen Ready 4 War as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Alex Cole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Genghis Khan!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Russell Pearce and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan swings widly with a right hand
and Cole counters with a series of strikes. Khan will be more careful next time no doubt.
Cole tries to close the distance and clinch up but Khan swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Genghis Khan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Khan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Khan misses with a jab to the body

and Cole counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Cole is trying to break free.
A frustrated look appears on Khan's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Khan breaks the clinch.
Khan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A looping hook to the body misses from Khan. Cole does a little dance to reset his feet.
Khan thows a body shot but no joy.
Khan loads up on a big right hand but Cole slips the punch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Cole counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Cole.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cole manages to break the clinch.
Cole displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Khan throws out the jab.
Khan misses with a combination
and Cole connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Khan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cole circles away quickly and effectively.
Cole throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Genghis Khan has been cut.
Cole tries to clinch but Khan is having none of it.
Cole pivots, looking for a leg kick but Khan is out of range and Cole settles back down.
Khan stalks Cole and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cole's face. Cole staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Alex Cole has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Khan throws a jab but it's blocked by Cole.
Khan slips a jab and a cross from Cole.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cole slips a jab from Khan.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cole.
A big right from Khan misses.
Cole shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Khan pinned against the cage. Khan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Khan looks to land a body kick but Cole moved away.
Good leg kick by Khan there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A looping hook to the body misses from Khan. Cole does a little dance to reset his feet.
Khan jabbing away but nothing is landing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Khan moves into range and connects with a jab.
Cole lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Khan cracks Cole with an open hand slap.
Khan throws a sloppy head kick and Cole moves out of range easily.
Khan scores with a one two! Cole had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cole.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Cole. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Khan throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Khan with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Cole to score with a decent uppercut.
Cole throws a right and a left that Khan avoids nicely.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cole tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Khan swivels and escapes.
Cole is breathing heavily.
Khan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Khan thuds his shin into the meat of Cole's side.
Khan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cole defends it nicely.
Cole misses with a takedown attempt
and Khan counters with a nice body shot.
A combination from Khan does no damage.
A big right from Khan misses.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A clash of legs there as Cole blocks the low kick.
The fighters circle momentarily. Khan darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Genghis Khan will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Cole works Khan's body with a nice hook.
Genghis Khan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cole leaves Khan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That kick from Khan tenderised Cole's leg. Cole is trying to keep his angry face on.
Khan lands with a nice body kick.
Cole shoots in for a takedown but Khan shows good takedown defense.
Khan throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Cole dodges the punch combination from Khan.
Cole uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Khan.

Nice defenses there by Khan.
Cole scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Khan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cole.
Khan is looking to land body kicks.
Cole swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cole avoids the body shot from Khan.
Khan misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Cole connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Khan scores with a leg kick.
Khan cracks Cole with a right hand to the side of the head.

Cole throws a right and a left that both miss.
Some wild striking there from Cole.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cole thows a left - swing and a miss!
Cole misses with a head kick.
Cole fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Khan manages to avoid it.
Khan feints a jab promting Cole to slip. Khan then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Cole slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cole gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Crunch! Khan slams his shin into Cole's torso.

Cole takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Khan throws a series of punches but Cole avoids them all with ease.
Khan throws a jab when Cole was well out of range.
Alex Cole is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Good standup being displayed there by Cole as he connects with a hook.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Cole. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Khan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Khan lands with a nice body punch.
Cole moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Cole blocks a head kick by Khan.
Cole lands a lovely overhand right.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cole throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Khan stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Khan scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cole doesn't seem bothered though.
Khan takes a swing at Cole's ribcage but misses.
Cole defending well as Khan loads up on a big left hand.
Cole uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Khan.
Cole moves in looking to clinch but Khan pushes him off.
Cole tries to bum rush Khan with a series of wild strikes but Khan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cole closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Khan did well to prevent Cole getting side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Khan works his way to full guard. Good work.
Khan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Genghis Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Khan throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Cole's head.
Cole slips a jab and a cross from Khan.
Cole feints a jab promting Khan to slip. Cole then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Khan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Khan moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Khan throws a body punch but Cole moves out of range.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Khan.
Khan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cole dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Khan connects with a body shot that sends Cole's belly button to the back.
Khan lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Cole swinging wildly here.
Cole works over Khan's head and body with a nice combination.
Khan swings for the body but Cole moves out of range.
Khan throws a hook but Cole avoids it easily.
Khan misses with a low kick.
Khan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Khan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Alex Cole has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Cole blocks a jab.
Cole misses with the combination.
A right-left combo lands from Cole.
Cole tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Khan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Cole misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cole swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Khan counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Khan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Cole misses with a wild body shot.
Cole tests Khan's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Cole moves out of range of the leg kick from Khan.
Cole misses with a body shot.
Cole blocks a head kick by Khan.
Nice takedown defense from Khan. No joy for Cole on that attempt.
Khan swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cole counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cole takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Khan looks to land a combination but Cole avoids it well.
Cole avoids the head kick by Khan.
Khan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cole scores with a nice strike.
Cole keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cole looks for a takedown but Khan sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Cole. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Cole finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Genghis Khan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alex Cole.
I think Khan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
