Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Valentijn Overeem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Doe!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paul Aken and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Doe clinches with his opponent.
Overeem looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Overeem has Doe pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Doe manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Doe looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Doe with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Doe stalling.
Overeem misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Doe.
Overeem is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Doe pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Overeem tries to break free but Doe pushes him back against the cage.
Overeem goes for a takedown in the clinch but Doe prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Valentijn Overeem. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Overeem avoiding damage as Doe throws knees to the body.
Doe just leaning against Overeem, taking a breather.
Doe digs a right hand underneath Overeem's ribcage. Overeem let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Doe manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Overeem postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Doe is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Overeem, into his guard.

Overeem is working an open guard so Doe takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Doe closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Doe lands with a light punch inside.
Doe is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Overeem is defending well for now.
Doe tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Doe working hard to break the clinch.

Doe manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Doe is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Overeem rolls with it to try and escape but Doe cranks on the arm and Overeem is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Doe!
In his post fight interview, John Doe started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
