The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGee is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hayes's half guard.
McGee passes to full mount!

McGee is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Hayes has managed to escape the submission attempt.

McGee get's back to his feet.
McGee shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hayes as he avoids it easily.
Hayes moves in looking to clinch but McGee pushes him off.
Larry Hayes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hayes drives through and clinches with McGee against the cage.
Hayes on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Hayes is trying to stall.
McGee is trying to drag Hayes to the mat but Hayes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Hayes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and McGee counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hayes's guard now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McGee has gone for a leg lock! Hayes slips out almost immediately though and dives into McGee's guard.

McGee working for a triangle but Hayes defends it easily.
McGee manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hayes manages to get himself to full guard.
McGeeis looking to pass into half guard but Hayes pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Hayes is in guard.
Hayes would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

McGee has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hayes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
