PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ippo Makunouchi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Constantin Bejenaru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ippo Makunouchi looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ippo Makunouchi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Constantin Bejenaru!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Dean Styles and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bejenaru throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Makunouchi's waist but Makunouchi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bejenaru off to one side.

Bejenaru goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Makunouchi is on top in guard.
Makunouchi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Makunouchi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bejenaru did well to prevent Makunouchi getting side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bejenaru has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Makunouchi after a bit of a struggle.

Makunouchi is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bejenaru can't fight it off and eventually Makunouchi manages to take the fight to the floor. Bejenaru looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Bejenaru manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Makunouchi manages to get himself to full guard.

Bejenaru is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Constantin Bejenaru hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bejenaru.
Ippo Makunouchi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Constantin Bejenaru.

Makunouchi shoots in and gets a takedown into Bejenaru's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bejenaru seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Ippo Makunouchi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Let's hope that Bejenaru has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Constantin Bejenaru has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Makunouchi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bejenaru.
No luck for Bejenaru with that takedown attempt.

Makunouchi feints and as Bejenaru raises his hands in defense, Makunouchi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ippo Makunouchi will probably get the nod.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bejenaru tries to roll over but Makunouchi keeps him under control.

Well, if Makunouchi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Makunouchi postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bejenaru is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Makunouchi, into his guard.

Makunouchi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bejenaru is controlling him.

Bejenaru is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Makunouchi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bejenaru on the ground.

Constantin Bejenaru comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Makunouchi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
