PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between AJ Harvey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wyatt Earp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harvey comes into the arena with Dangerzone blaring out of the sound system. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, AJ Harvey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wyatt Earp!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harvey is trying hard to land a takedown here. Earp sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Harvey closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Earp quickly recovers to half guard.
Harvey takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Harvey content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Earp looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Earp misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Earp missing with punches from the bottom.
Harvey trying to control the pace.

Earp looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Harvey pushes past his half guard into mount!

Earp is wriggling around trying to escape.
Earp is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Harvey could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Harvey is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Earp has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Harvey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Earp on the ground.
Earp is squirming around, avoiding Harvey's attempts to control the action.
Harvey blocks Earp's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Earp bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Earp trying to control the position from guard on top but Harvey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Earp has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Earp distracts Harvey with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Harvey keeping moving, preventing Earp from controlling successfully.
Harvey tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Earp drops back, looking for a kneebar! Harvey looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Harvey looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Harvey!

Harvey is trying to get an arm triangle but Earp is defending well.
Earp gets back to half guard.

Earp is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Harvey pulls his head out easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harvey is looking to advance position but Earp won't allow it.
Harvey moves into full mount! Earp won't be happy about that!
Earp regains half guard.
Earp pushes Harvey off looking to stand but Harvey dives back in and keeps control.
Earp landing a few short strikes.
Earp trying to control but Harvey postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harvey is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Earp wants to control but Harvey is keeping busy.

Earp makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Harvey tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Earp looks for a takedown but Harvey sprawls well.
Earp looks gassed!
Harvey moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harvey tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Earp manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Harvey shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Earp as he avoids it easily.
Earp looks for a takedown but Harvey sprawls well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that AJ Harvey will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Harvey closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Earp to the mat! Earp manages to get full guard.
Earp will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Earp looking for a guillotine here but Harvey defends easily.
Harvey wants to control from the top but Earp keeps moving.

Earp working for submissions but it's allowed Harvey to get to half guard.
Earp wants to improve his position but Harvey is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Harvey looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Earp missing with punches from the bottom.
Harvey trying to control the pace.
Wyatt Earp has got the better of the ground game so far.
Harvey wants to advance to full mount but Earp doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Earp working a defensive guard here.
Earp doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Harvey stopping the sweep attempt from Earp.

Earp working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Harvey doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Harvey manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Earp is breathing heavily.
Earp working a defensive guard but Harvey manages to pass into side control anyway.
Earp is trying to control Harvey's posture but Harvey avoids it.
Earp lands a little strike from the bottom.

Harvey landing a few strikes.
Earp sneaks back into half guard.
Harvey wants to free his trapped foot but Earp is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Earp flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Earp misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Harvey not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Harvey wants to control but Earp is keeping him busy.

Earp looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Harvey is trying to control. Earp wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Earp is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Harvey is taking a breather. Earp says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Harvey is thwarting Earp's attempts to control the position.
Harvey trying to control the action but Earp is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of AJ Harvey.

Harvey moves into range and clinches up with Earp.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Earp has Harvey pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Earp pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Harvey tumbling to the mat - Earp dives into Harvey's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

A close second round but Wyatt Earp will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Harvey clinches with his opponent.
Earp is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Harvey breaks from the clinch.
A right-left combo lands from Harvey.
Earp shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Harvey closes this distance looking for a takedown but Earp circles away.
Earp tries to score a power double leg takedown but Harvey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Earp somewhat.
AJ Harvey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wyatt Earp.

Harvey fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Earp sprawls well initially but Harvey persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Earp takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Earp wants to get back to full guard.
Earp is refusing to be controlled, as Harvey sits in half guard.

Harvey prevents Earp from standing back up.
Earp is staying active underneath Harvey, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Harvey decides to return to a standing position.
Wyatt Earp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Earp looks for a takedown but Harvey sprawls well.
Harvey shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Earp eats them both and turns towards Harvey to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Harvey looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Harvey is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Earp pushes Harvey off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Earp wants to clinch.
Earp shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Harvey but Harvey pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Harvey scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Earp looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Earp gets full guard.
Harvey pushes down on Earp's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Earp is not content to let Harvey control the position.
Earp missing with punches from the bottom.
Earp is looking to escape.

Earp is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Harvey pulls his head out easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Harvey moves nicely into side control.

Harvey working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Harvey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Earp keeps working.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Earp sneaks back into half guard.

Earp pushes Harvey off and gets back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
AJ Harvey showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Harvey has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
