Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lance Uppercut!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sawao Kato!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Taro Takaoka and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uppercut scores with a nice head shot.
Kato looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kato wants to clinch but Uppercut slips to the side
and Kato takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Kato has his takedown stuffed

and Uppercut counters with a shoot takedown. Kato fights it but they end up in guard.
Kato keeping full guard, as Uppercut tries to pass.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Kato had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Uppercut defends it easily.
Uppercut throwing strikes from guard but Kato blocks nicely.
Uppercut trying to control the position from guard on top but Kato is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kato is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Uppercut lands a couple of digs.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kato has his foot on Uppercut's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Uppercut works his way back into a safe position though.
Uppercut tries to free his leg and advance position but Kato is retaining full guard.
Uppercut sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kato's guard.
Kato wants to get back to full guard.
Uppercut moves into full mount! Kato won't be happy about that!

That's one minute gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Uppercut cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Kato in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.


It looks like Sawao Kato has been cut.
Uppercut postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kato looks a forlorn figure.
Uppercut has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Uppercut is landing with some decent strikes but Kato is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.


Kato is rocked!


The cut above Sawao Kato's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Uppercut looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Uppercut controlling the position easily from mount.
Uppercut trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Uppercut wants to finish this one by submission but Kato is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Uppercut.
Uppercut with the ground and pound from mount.


Sawao Kato's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Sawao Kato's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Lance Uppercut!
Lance Uppercut retains his welterweight title!
Our winner, Lance Uppercut, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
