Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Newking (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Banks comes to the cage accompanied by White and Nerdy. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newking throws an overhand right that lands on Banks's shoulder, as Banks tries to avoid the shot.
Banks is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Newking.
Newking staying out of range there.
Banks walks into a left hand.
Newking will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Newking throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Banks gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Banks misses with a short punch on the inside.

Newking breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Newking moves in looking to clinch but Banks pushes him off.
Newking fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Banks looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Newking tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Banks paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Newking takes one to the chin there.


It looks like Sam Newking has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Newking fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sam Newking seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Banks cracks a nice hook into Newking's ribs.
A punch combination from Banks misses.
Banks stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Newking moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Newking throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Banks sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A big left from Banks misses.
Banks wants to clinch.

Newking gets tackled into the cage by Banks. Banks maintains the clinch.

Newking can't break the clinch.

Newking manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Banks trying to control the position from guard on top but Newking is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Banks seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Banks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Newking swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Banks is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Michael Banks just wasn't active enough.
Banks misses with a looping right.
Newking misses with a few strikes there.

Banks closes the distance and clinches.
Banks trying to stall but Newking improves his position.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Banks prevents Newking from breaking the clinch.
Newking can't break the clinch.
Newking wants to break free but Banks has control.

Newking escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A telegraphed right hand from Banks misses the target.
Banks doesn't manage to clinch there - Newking circles away.

Newking rushes Banks and presses him up against the cage.
Banks misses with a punch on the inside.
Banks lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Newking has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Newking escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Newking is looking to clinch.
Newking shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Banks ducks under a wild hook from Newking.
Newking waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Banks.
Newking tries to clinch there but Banks circles away.
Newking circles away from the clinch attempt.
Newking wants to clinch.
Banks has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Banks there as he acknowledges the shot.
Newking throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Newking gets a clinch.

Banks gets through Newking's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Banks misses with some punches.
Newking blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Banks prevents a takedown attempt there.

Banks lands a nice uppercut.

Newking takes a shot to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Banks is trying to stall.
Newking is trying to break the clinch but Banks is controlling him.
Newking wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Newking manages to break the clinch.
Newking tries to clinch there but Banks circles away.
Newking fails in his attempt to clinch.
Newking scores with a hook.
Newking moves in looking to clinch but Banks pushes him off.
Banks works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.


That has opened up Sam Newking's cut even more.
Banks keeps the fight on the outside.
Banks throws a lazy right hand but Newking sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Banks takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Banks lands with a cross.


The cut above Sam Newking's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Newking leaves his chin hanging out and Banks seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Newking crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Michael Banks!
