PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rejinaldo Silveira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Spend (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jesse Spend was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rejinaldo Silveira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse Spend!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silveira uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Spend.
Spend looks to land a combination but Silveira avoids it well.
Spend with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Silveira shoots in looking for a takedown. Spend tries to sprawl out of it but Silveira keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Spend manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Spend pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Silveira shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Spend but Spend pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Spend throws a series of strikes that have Silveira backpedaling.
Horrible takedown by Silveira or perhaps it was just good defense by Spend which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rejinaldo Silveira. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silveira slips a jab and a cross from Spend.
Spend throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Spend throws a right and a left that Silveira avoids nicely.
Jesse Spend seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spend throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Silveira throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Spend tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Silveira is in Spend's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Spend trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Spend had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Silveira defends it easily.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Silveira's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spend throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Silveira is working Spend over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Spend has his foot on Silveira's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silveira works his way back into a safe position though.
Silveira postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Spend is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Spend looks gassed!

Spend working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silveira doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silveira manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Silveira cracks Spend with a solid left hand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Silveira is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silveira is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Silveira has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Silveira distracts Spend with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Silveira lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Spend quite badly. Spend pulls Silveira in close trying to recover. Silveira postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Spend on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Spend doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
