Idas on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Vargas closes the distance looking to clinch
and Idas counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vargas is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Vargas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Vargas swings for the body but Idas moves out of range.
Vargas tries to close the distance and clinch but Idas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Jose Vargas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Idas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Vargas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Idas.
Vargas is looking to clinch but Idas is avoiding it.
Idas keeps the fight on the outside.
Vargas tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Idas counters with a crisp one two that drops Vargas! Idas thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Vargas to his feet! Vargas is in big trouble!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Idas is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Vargas flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Vargas is out cold! Idas holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Leon Idas!
A determined Leon Idas didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
