Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vince Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vince Chase!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Maia!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia throws a leg kick
and Chase counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Maia leaves Chase with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Maia misses with a series of wild punches.
Maia tries to bum rush Chase with a series of wild strikes but Chase uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Chase shoots in and drives through. Maia sprawls well.
A jab from Chase misses.
Chase shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Maia defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vince Chase. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Maia darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Chase moves into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chase utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Chase looking for a sweep. Not yet Chase, not yet.
Maia controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Maia stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Maia avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Chase tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Chase gets caught flat footed, as Maia shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Maia is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Chase keeping moving, preventing Maia from controlling successfully.
Chase looking to control.

Maia tries to free his leg and advance position but Chase is retaining full guard.

Chase is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Maia is aware though and is defending well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Maia postures up.
Maia passes Chase's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Maia prevents Chase from improving his position.
Chase is breathing heavily.

Maia decides to return to a standing position.
Chase tries to bum rush Maia with a series of wild strikes but Maia uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Maia is trying hard to land a takedown here. Chase sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Chase drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Maia tries to improve position but can't.

Chase looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Maia is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Chase has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Chase is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Maia knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Chase swings around for an armbar but Maia sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Chase's guard.
Maia wants to stand and escape but instead Chase has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Chase slips nicely into half guard.
Maia is trying to maintain the position but Chase is very close to passing his half guard.
Maia is looking to improve his position.
Chase is trying to control. Maia wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chase passes to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maia is trying to control Chase's posture but Chase avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Maia will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Maia fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Chase is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Chase forces Maia back against the cage and clinches.

Maia pulls Chase into guard.
Maia keeping moving, preventing Chase from controlling successfully.
Chase is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Maia is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Maia has his foot on Chase's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chase works his way back into a safe position though.
Maia is breathing heavily.
Chase pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Maia is keeping the position for now.

Chase loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Maia manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Maia avoids the attempt from Chase to control.
Maia punishing his opponent with strikes.
Chase is trying to escape the mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Maia is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Chase to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Chase shrugs it off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chase working to try and regain half guard.
Maia lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Chase is trying to reverse the position but instead Maia has taken his back - oops!
Chase tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Chase is looking to improve his position but Maia isn't that keen on the idea.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maia controlling from the full mount.
Maia trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Chase is looking to improve his position but Maia isn't that keen on the idea.
Chase is working hard here to advance position.
Maia wants to control the pace but Chase is squirming around nicely.
Maia is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Chase tries to hold on but Maia pushes him away.
Maia tries to control but Chase wriggling away.
Maia lands a big shot there that rocks Chase but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Maia postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Chase looks a forlorn figure.
Maia prevents Chase from getting the reversal.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chase looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Maia has good solid back control here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but John Maia will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Chase throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Maia throws a head kick that misses.

Maia shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Chase gets back to full guard.
Maia preventing the sweep.
Chase keeping moving, preventing Maia from controlling successfully.

Chase working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Maia has passed into half guard!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Maia trying to control the action but Chase is working from the bottom.
Chase makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Chase.
Chase is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Maia would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Chase working for a triangle but Maia defends it easily.

Chase is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Maia has his hands clasped together but Chase extends an breaks Maia's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Chase.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Vince Chase!
