PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kaija Koo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ran Sakamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koo kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Kaija Koo - Kuka keksi rakkauden?. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kaija Koo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ran Sakamoto!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Shimada and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koo misses with an uppercut.

Sakamoto gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Koo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Koo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Sakamoto is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Koo throwing strikes but missing.
Koo wants to pass the guard but Sakamoto is keeping the position.

Sakamoto is not content to let Koo control the position.
Sakamoto moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Koo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Koo won't allow Sakamoto to sweep him here.

Sakamoto working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Koo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Koo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Koo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Koo is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sakamoto tries to buck Koo off but Koo is having none of it.

Koo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Koo wants to control but Sakamoto is keeping him busy.
Sakamoto sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Sakamoto looks gassed!

Koo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Koo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Sakamoto is staying active underneath Koo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Koo wants to pass the guard but Sakamoto is defending well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Koo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Koo showed some decent athleticism there.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Koo in particular looking to stall.

Koo wants to work for an arm triangle but Sakamoto is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
