PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cal Collins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mason comes into the arena with Y.U. Mad blaring out of the sound system. Collins has chosen Kosher Boy as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cal Collins!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Steve Montenegro and Alyssa Summers.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mason throws out a loose jab but Collins uses good head movement to avoid it.
A jab from Mason misses.
Mason displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Collins.

Mason moves into the clinch.
Mason stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Collins is trying to break the clinch but Mason has him pressed against the cage.
Mason lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Collins has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mason avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Collins wants to get back to striking at distance but Mason won't allow it.
Collins tries to pull guard but Mason won't allow it.
Mike Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cal Collins.
Mason lands a shoulder strike.

Mason pushes Collins back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Collins wants a takedown but no success here.

A short body shot lands from Mason as the two fighters clinch.

Collins has a couple of punches blocked by Mason.
Collins tries to circle away but Mason has him pinned against the cage.
Collins tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mason smiles and moves away.
Collins takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Mason connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Mason blocks a head kick by Collins.
Collins slips a jab and a cross from Mason.
Collins closes the distance but Mason moves to the side
and Mason counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Cal Collins has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mason works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Collins tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mason swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mason avoids the head kick by Collins.
Collins tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mason swivels and escapes.
Collins looks gassed!
Collins tries to bum rush Mason with a series of wild strikes but Mason uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A lazy left from Mason finds it's target.
Mason scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Collins is rocked!
Mason cracks Collins with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Collins tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Mason pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Collins is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Mason!
