The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but da Silva avoids it really well and circles away.
Johnson with a poor takedown
and da Silva counters with a series of strikes. Johnson will be more careful next time no doubt.
A momentary lapse in concentration from da Silva enables Johnson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. da Silva manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
da Silva working a defensive guard but Johnson manages to pass into side control anyway.
Johnson in side control lands a decent elbow.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

da Silva takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
da Silva is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

da Silva is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Johnson off and has taken his back!
Johnson rolls, trying to escape but da Silva keeps control of the position.

Johnson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because da Silva is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
da Silva is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Johnson won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips da Silva off his unconscious opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sebastiao da Silva!
A relieved looking Sebastiao da Silva thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
