PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dave Scaum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wanderlei Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Wanderlei Silva was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Scaum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wanderlei Silva!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good exchange - Scaum coming out on top.
Scaum shoots in for a takedown but Silva shows good takedown defense.
Silva misses with a takedown attempt - Scaum sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Silva tries to clinch there but Scaum circles away.
Scaum fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Silva throws a right and a left that Scaum avoids nicely.
Silva tries to clinch but Scaum is having none of it.

Silva gets caught napping as Scaum dives in and scores a takedown. Silva manages to retain guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Silva has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Scaum is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Silva.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Silva is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Scaum asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Silva is looking for a sweep.
Scaum lands a decent elbow from side control.

Scaum decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Silva closes the distance and clinches up with Scaum, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes Scaum against the cage but Scaum circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Scaum connects with an inside leg kick.

Scaum feints and as Silva raises his hands in defense, Scaum changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Scaum seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Silva is working an open guard so Scaum takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Scaum swivels and escapes.
Dave Scaum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wanderlei Silva.
Silva moves to clinch but Scaum breaks away
and Scaum counters with a nice body shot.
Silva throws a left and a right that both miss
and Scaum counters with a right hand to the body.

Scaum gets a takedown into half guard.

Scaum stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Scaum has managed to clinch.

Scaum jumps into guard, dragging Silva to the mat.
Scaum manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Scaum has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Scaum is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Silva is surviving well by controlling Scaum's body position as best he can.

Scaum is trying to trip Silva. He has hold of a leg but Silva is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Scaum persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Scaum gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Silva looks for a takedown but Scaum sprawls well.
Scaum shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Silva sprawls well. Silva wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Scaum gets slowly back to his feet.

Scaum shoots for a double leg takedown but Silva sprawls well. He's pushed Scaum's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Scaum shoots for a double leg takedown but Silva sprawls well. He's pushed Scaum's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Scaum cracks Silva with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Scaum cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Scaum has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Silva misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Scaum.

Scaum has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Silva uses from the top position.
