And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Montel Williams!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mason lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Montel Williams has been cut.

Mason drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Williams wants to control from the top but Mason keeps moving.

Williams seems to be working for a kimura but Mason defends the submission attempt.
Mason is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Williams is tying to control. Mason wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Williams has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mason is working away from the top position though.

Mason postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mason trying to control the position from guard on top but Williams is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mason postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Williams preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Williams had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Mason is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Williams Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Mason's back instead.
Mason tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Williams patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Williams doesn't have the hooks in and Mason manages to turn into his guard.
Mason is fighting to break Williams's control of his arms but Williams is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Williams not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Williams looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Williams working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mason doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mason manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Williams manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Williams wants to control the pace but Mason is squirming around nicely.
Mason tries to hold on but Williams pushes him away.
Williams is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Williams looking to control but Mason is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Mason is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Mason swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Williams fails with the takedown

and Mason counters with a single leg into guard. Williams didn't expect that.
Mason postures up in Williams's guard and throws a big left but Williams blocks it.

Mason postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Williams is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mason, into his guard.
Williams wants to stand but Mason is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Williams wants to pass the guard but Mason is keeping the position.
Mason looking for a sweep. Not yet Mason, not yet.

Mason throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Williams escapes and throws Mason's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Williams has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Mason is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Williams yanks on the arm and Mason is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Williams.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Montel Williams!
