Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Frank Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Kingston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Kingston!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cruz closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kingston quickly recovers to half guard.
Cruz looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Kingston is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cruz scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Cruz is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Cruz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cruz working over Kingston with some ground and pound. Kingston looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Kingston is looking for a sweep. Cruz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Cruz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kingston can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Frank Cruz wasn't doing enough on the ground.

The referee asks Cruz politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Cruz prefers to stall for the moment though.

Cruz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

We're going to have a standup here because Frank Cruz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Kingston wants to clinch

and Cruz counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kingston!
Kingston tries to lock up and control but Cruz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Cruz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Kingston trying desperately to get to his feet.

Cruz moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Kingston has worked his arm free - good work by Kingston!
Cruz is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kingston's shoulder. That is not cool.
Kingston should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Cruz in side control lands a decent elbow.
Cruz takes a little break here. Kingston wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Kingston is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cruz is controlling him well.
Cruz is staying tight to Kingston's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Kingston is trying to get back to half guard.
Frank Cruz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kingston is breathing heavily.

Cruz decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Kingston stuffs the takedown attempt from Cruz. Cruz gets slowly back to his feet.
Cruz shoots in but no luck this time.
Kingston stuffs the takedown.

Kingston tries to close the distance and clinch but Cruz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Cruz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kingston but Kingston pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Cruz lands with a nice combination. Kingston backs away looking to recover.
Cruz circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cruz slaps away a takedown attempt from Kingston, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kingston throws a right and a left that both miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Cruz dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Kingston misses with a combination

You can see the frustration on Kingston's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cruz slows the pace down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kingston wants to get back to his feet.
Kingston takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cruz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cruz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kingston sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cruz somewhat.

Cruz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Cruz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Jack Kingston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cruz closes the distance and clinches up with Kingston, looking for a takedown. Cruz pushes Kingston against the cage but Kingston circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Cruz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kingston looks to score with a jab to the body but Cruz is just out of range.

Good leg kick by Kingston there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kingston looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Cruz slaps away a takedown attempt from Kingston, before circling back to the center of the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Cruz showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cruz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
