PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Eberhart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hector Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eberhart's entrance music is South Side. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hector Alves!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Eberhart throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Alves tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Eberhart is in Alves's guard.

Eberhart is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Alves is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Alves has escaped and now he's on top!

Eberhart escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alves gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Alves avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Eberhart had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alves defends it easily.

Eberhart is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Alves pulls his head out easily.

Alves takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Eberhart tries to lock up and control but Alves gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

It looks like Alves might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Eberhart is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Alves throws a quick inside leg kick.
Alves misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Alves looks to score with a jab to the body but Eberhart is just out of range.
Hector Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Eberhart dives in and grabs Alves's left leg, looking for a takedown. Alves pushes down on Eberhart's head and hops out.
Alves throws out a leg kick but Eberhart moves out of range and Alves only half commits.
Eberhart swats away the attempt to clinch by Alves.
Eberhart shoots in but Alves avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Hector Alves is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Alves throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Alves wants to clinch up but Eberhart keeps it at a distance.

and Alves counters with a straight right hand.

Alves tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Eberhart is able to avoid easily.

Eberhart is looking to regain half guard here but Alves keeps moving and retains side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Alves throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Alves scores with a kick to the midsection.
Eberhart takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Alves throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Alves lands a nice shot to the body.
Alves throws a sloppy head kick and Eberhart moves out of range easily.

Alves gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Alves manages to break the clinch.
Alves throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Alves scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Eberhart shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Alves as he jumps to the side.
Eberhart takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hector Alves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Eberhart drops back, looking for a kneebar! Alves looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alves looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alves!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Alves throws a leg kick but Eberhart sees it coming and moves out of range.
Eberhart displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Alves throws out the jab.
Alves tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Eberhart manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Eberhart looks for a takedown but Alves sprawls well.

Alves fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Eberhart is out of range.

Alves is squirming around, avoiding Eberhart's attempts to control the action.

Eberhart swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Alves is now in Eberhart's guard. A big mistake from Eberhart there, giving up the dominant position!
