Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gio Naza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leandro Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Naza comes to the cage accompanied by Saliva - Ladies and Gentlemen. Alves is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Damian Marley - Welcome To Jamrock. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 2, fighting out of London, Gio Naza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Leandro Alves!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Richard Clark and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves misses the shot to the body.
Alves uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Naza shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alves fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Leandro Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Alves is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Naza fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Alves avoids it really well and circles away.
Alves throws a shot to the body.
Alves lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Alves fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Alves fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Naza manages to avoid it.
Naza walks into a left hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Alves feints and as Naza raises his hands in defense, Alves changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Naza is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Alves is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Alves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Naza swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Alves missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Alves tries to free his leg and advance position but Naza is retaining full guard.
Naza keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully.
Alves's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Leandro Alves has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
A head kick misses from Alves.
Alves fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Naza manages to avoid it.
Naza takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Alves throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Alves throws a series of punches but Naza moves out of range.
Naza throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Alves misses with a series of wild punches.
A looping hook to the body misses from Naza. Alves does a little dance to reset his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Naza keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Alves.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alves shoots in but no luck this time.
A solid leg kick lands there for Naza.

Naza closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Naza wants to control for a moment but Alves uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Alves looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Alves makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Alves.
Naza trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.
Naza has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Alves wants to improve his position but instead Naza has moved into half guard.
Naza is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Naza seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Naza prevents Alves from improving his position.
Naza thows a huge punch but Alves dodges it nicely.
Alves is looking to improve his position.
Naza drops an elbow to the side of Alves's head.
Naza scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Alves trying to control here.
Alves gets back to full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alves not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Naza with a nice head shot there.
Alves is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leandro Alves dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Alves misses with a hook. Naza ducked under it nicely.
Alves throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Alves shoots in looking for a takedown but Naza manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Alves's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Alves closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Naza did well to prevent Alves getting side control.
Naza is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Alves looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Alves slips a nice elbow through Naza's hands, connecting with Naza's forehead.
Alves seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alves passes to side control.
Alves trying to control the action but Naza is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alves in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Naza is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Leandro Alves!
In his post fight interview, Leandro Alves started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
