PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jens Pulver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Chilcoat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jens Pulver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aaron Chilcoat!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chilcoat tries to clinch up but Pulver circles away and keeps his distance.
Chilcoat is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Chilcoat tries to clinch up.
Chilcoat is looking to clinch but Pulver is avoiding it.

Chilcoat has taken the fight to the clinch.
Chilcoat tries to pull guard but Pulver holds him up against the cage and eventually Chilcoat drops back down to his feet.
Pulver wants to get back to striking at distance but Chilcoat won't allow it.
Chilcoat tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Pulver just stands there and leans against the cage.
Chilcoat throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Pulver blocks it with crossed arms.
Chilcoat lands an elbow that stopped Pulver in his tracks for a moment.
Chilcoat throws a knee to the head but misses.
Chilcoat has Pulver pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Pulver manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Jens Pulver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aaron Chilcoat.

Pulver dodges an elbow strike from Chilcoat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chilcoat goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pulver prevents it.

Pulver tries a head kick but it misses.
A jab-cross combination lands for Pulver and sends Chilcoat crashing to the mat! Pulver follows him down to the mat - Chilcoat regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

It looks like Aaron Chilcoat has been cut.
Chilcoat is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Chilcoat is still in real trouble! Can Pulver finish him?

Chilcoat seems to have recovered his senses.
Chilcoat looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Pulver puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Chilcoat is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Pulver is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Chilcoat is looking to get back to full guard here but Pulver has managed to pass to side control instead.
Chilcoat tries to hold on but Pulver postures up.
Chilcoat tries to reverse the position but Pulver maintains control.

Pulver knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chilcoat on the ground.
Chilcoat is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Chilcoat manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Chilcoat is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Chilcoat wants to get back to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Chilcoat moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Chilcoat doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chilcoat wants to sweep but no luck.
Chilcoat looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Pulver puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Chilcoat wants to clinch.
Chilcoat shoots for a takedown but Pulver saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Chilcoat changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pulver tries to avoid it but Chilcoat manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pulver to the ground. Pulver escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jens Pulver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chilcoat blocks a jab.
Pulver fails to land with a series of punches.
Chilcoat tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Chilcoat avoids a punch combination nicely.
Chilcoat fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jens Pulver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aaron Chilcoat.
Pulver throws a sloppy head kick and Chilcoat moves out of range easily.

No joy there for Pulver, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Chilcoat moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Chilcoat darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Chilcoat tries to pass the half guard into mount. Pulver knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Chilcoat seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Chilcoat is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pulver doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Chilcoat.

Chilcoat takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Chilcoat looks to land a strike but Pulver avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Chilcoat wants to pass the guard but Pulver is keeping the position.

Aaron Chilcoat showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Pulver misses with a series of wild punches.
Pulver stuffs the takedown.
Pulver lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Chilcoat wants to clinch up but Pulver keeps it at a distance.
Chilcoat tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Pulver throws a one two combo.
Chilcoat closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Chilcoat misses with a few strikes there.
Chilcoat is still on wobbly legs! Can Pulver finish him?

Chilcoat drags the fight down to the ground.
Chilcoat seems to have recovered his senses.
Chilcoat tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pulver wants to stand but Chilcoat is controlling his posture from full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pulver wants to get up but he can't break Chilcoat's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Pulver is fighting to break Chilcoat's control of his arms but Chilcoat is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Chilcoat wants to sweep here but Pulver controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pulver tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Pulver throws a nice looking combination but Chilcoat bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Chilcoat shoots in looking for a takedown. Pulver tries to sprawl out of it but Chilcoat keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pulver manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck for Chilcoat with that takedown attempt.

Chilcoat has his feet on Pulver's thighs here. He's pushed Pulver off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Pulver screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
