PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Manvel Gamburyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Via Dios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gamburyan comes to the cage accompanied by Gamburyan vs. Brown on April 24th. Dios has chosen Sandstorm as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Manvel Gamburyan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Via Dios!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gamburyan gets a double leg takedown into Dios's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Gamburyan drops back, looking for a kneebar! Dios looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Dios looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Dios!

Dios is trying to get an arm triangle but Gamburyan is defending well.

Dios creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gamburyan sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dios throwing strikes here but Gamburyan is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Dios is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dios is thwarting Gamburyan's attempts to control the position.

Dios is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gamburyan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dios.
Gamburyan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dios is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dios is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Dios is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Dios frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Dios moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Gamburyan has worked his arm free - good work by Gamburyan!

Dios tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dios has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Dios postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Gamburyan is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dios creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gamburyan sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Dios looks up at the clock and then as Gamburyan takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Dios smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Gamburyan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Dios manages to work his way to half guard, despite Gamburyan's best efforts.

Dios is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gamburyan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gamburyan's back!

We're going to have a standup here because Manvel Gamburyan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Dios lands with an uppercut that bounces Gamburyan off the cage and back into range.
Dios lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gamburyan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Manvel Gamburyan.
Well Dios has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
