The crowd seem to be enjoying Shears's choice of entrance music: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Billy Shears has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ames tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ames blocks a jab.
Shears dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ames throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shears throws a head kick that misses.
Ames fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shears manages to avoid it.
Ames misses with a hook. Shears ducked under it nicely.
Ames takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Ames cracks Shears with a right hand to the side of the head.
Shears takes a swing at Ames's ribcage but misses.
Shears misses the shot to the body.
Shears tries to clinch but Ames is having none of it.
Billy Shears seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ames avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Shears needs to keep his hands up - Ames had a free shot at his head there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shears shoots in for a takedown but Ames shows good takedown defense.

Ames lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Ames gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ames wants to clinch up but Shears keeps it at a distance.

Shears takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Ames throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Shears throws a body punch but Ames moves out of range.
Shears throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ames counters with a nice low kick that buckles Shears's knee momentarily.
Nathan Ames is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ames throws out a powerful jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ames connects with a single shot there.

Ames lands a two punch combo.
Ames uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Shears.
Shears scores with a shot to the body.
Shears throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Shears checks a leg kick nicely.
Shears shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ames pinned against the cage. Ames gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Shears on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Shears looks gassed!
Shears throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shears takes a kick to the side of the head.
Shears takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Ames stuns Shears with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Ames throws a good cross that connects.
Ames connects with a body shot that sends Shears's belly button to the back.
Ames throws a quick inside leg kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ames connects with a leg kick. Shears looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Ames explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Ames throws a leg kick which misses Shears's front leg but catches the back leg as Shears tries to avoid it.
The fighters circle momentarily. Ames darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Shears takes a shot to the body in his stride.
A nice leg kick lands there from Ames.
Ames feints with a jab and clips Shears right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Shears is sent crashing into the canvas and Ames leaps in for the kill! Shears tries to get to his feet but Ames is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Shears is in need of a savior and steps in!
