PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Deere (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Syd Locke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, John Deere!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Syd Locke!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Locke shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Deere forces Locke back against the cage and clinches.
Deere looks to throw an elbow but misses.
The referee calls for Locke to work.
Locke continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.
Locke is trying to maintain a safe position but Deere gets an underhook and turns Locke into the cage.

Deere breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Deere pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Locke back to the cage. Deere follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.


It looks like Syd Locke has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Deere tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Locke is able to avoid easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Locke tries to clinch but Deere moves out of range.
Locke scores with a body shot.
Locke swings for the body but Deere moves out of range.
Deere shoots in for a takedown but Locke shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Deere throws a hook but Locke blocks it.
Locke wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Locke slips under a jab from Deere.

Deere drives through with a takedown into Locke's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Deere trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Deere trying to control but Locke is working from the bottom.

Locke working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Deere doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Deere manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Locke working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Deere.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Deere with a flurry of punches that miss.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Locke keeping moving, preventing Deere from controlling successfully.
Deere is really struggling to control Locke but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Locke keeping full guard, as Deere tries to pass.

Locke is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Deere defends well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Locke looking to hit a scissor sweep but Deere is one step ahead there.
Deere looking to sit in guard and control but Locke gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Deere had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Locke defends it easily.
Locke won't allow Deere to sweep him here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Locke has gone for a leg lock! Deere slips out almost immediately though and dives into Locke's guard.
Locke is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Deere won't allow Locke to get back to his feet.
Deere pushing down on Locke's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Deere is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Locke defends it well.
Locke flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Deere dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Syd Locke's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Deere blocks a jab.

Deere feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Deere works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Locke trying to control from the bottom.

Locke is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Deere pulls his head out easily.
Locke tries to roll over but Deere keeps him under control.
Locke is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Deere sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Locke defending well though.

Deere is trying to work for a kimura but Locke is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Deere thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Locke's head.
Deere seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Locke does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Deere missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Deere is looking to advance position but Locke won't allow it.
The fighters are battling for position here. Locke manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Locke manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Locke thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Deere is trying to escape the mount.
Locke in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Locke throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Locke avoids the attempt from Deere to control.
Deere is working to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Deere tries to lock up and control but Locke gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Deere is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Locke throwing strikes here but Deere is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Deere really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Deere is working hard here to advance position.
Locke working Deere over with strikes here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Deere wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Locke has managed to slip his arm under Deere's chin. This could be all over... yep, Deere is tapping out! Submission win for Locke.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Syd Locke!
