The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Overeem tries to clinch but Kovriga moves out of range.
No joy there for Kovriga, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Overeem lands with an overhand left.
Overeem waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kovriga.
Kovriga misses with a few strikes there.
Kovriga connects with a good right hand that stumbles Overeem. Overeem circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

It looks like Alistair Overeem has been cut.
Kovriga lands with a good body shot.

and Overeem counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Kovriga!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kovriga is looking to get back to full guard here but Overeem has managed to pass to side control instead.
Kovriga can't do much from the bottom here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kovriga bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Overeem's head.

Overeem throws a big shot that misses.

Kovriga tries to bum rush Overeem with a series of wild strikes but Overeem uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Overeem lands with an overhand left.

Overeem moves out of range as Kovriga strikes.
Kovriga dodges the punch combination from Overeem.
Overeem tries to clinch up but Kovriga circles away and keeps his distance.
Kovriga is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Overeem.
Kovriga takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Overeem throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Kovriga tumbling to the canvas!

Kovriga is rocked!

It looks like Taras Kovriga has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kovriga is working an open guard so Overeem takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Kovriga checks a leg kick.
Taras Kovriga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Overeem swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Overeem drops Kovriga with a straight right hand, right on the button! Overeem follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
