PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Asmund (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Asmund!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Bob!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bob keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bob throws a sloppy head kick and Asmund moves out of range easily.

Asmund drives through with a takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Asmund being controlled here momentarily.
Bob tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bob looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Asmund pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bob is keeping the position for now.
Bob wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Asmund manages to pass to side control.
Bob looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bob has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Asmund is working away from the top position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Asmund controlling the action here.
Bob throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bob is trying to maintain the position but Asmund is very close to passing his half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
A head kick from Bob lands but Asmund takes it in his stride.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Bob drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Asmund is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mark Asmund will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Bob misses with a takedown attempt

and Asmund counters with a takedown into side control.
Asmund content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Bob is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Bob is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bob is trying to maintain the position but Asmund is very close to passing his half guard.
Asmund trying to control the pace.
Bob looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Asmund is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bob is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Asmund's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Asmund's back!
Bob is not going to allow Asmund to sit and survive in this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bob controls the action.
Asmund has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Bob.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Asmund dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Asmund shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bob but Bob pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Asmund throws a right and a left that both miss.
Bob shoots in but no luck this time.
Asmund wants to clinch up but Bob keeps it at a distance.
Asmund shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bob pinned against the cage. Bob gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Bob swats away the attempt to clinch by Asmund.

Asmund moves into range and clinches up with Bob.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Asmund tries to pull guard but Bob holds him up against the cage and eventually Asmund drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Asmund. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Asmund manages to break the clinch.
Mark Asmund is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Asmund doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Bob counters with a takedown into side control.
Bob looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Asmund is avoiding damage well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bob misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Bob tries to advance position but instead Asmund slips a leg back in to half guard.
Bob performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Asmund is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bob tries to stand and escape but Asmund is controlling the position.
Asmund is looking to improve his position.
Asmund wants to control but Bob is keeping busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bob wants to pass to mount but Asmund is defending the position.
Sam Bob has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bob is thwarting Asmund's attempts to control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sam Bob comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Asmund has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
