PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Prince Brook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vito Ferrari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Prince Brook!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vito Ferrari!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Konstantin Menshow and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ferrari plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!


It looks like Prince Brook has been cut.
Ferrari tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Brook cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Brook gets a double leg takedown into Ferrari's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Brook thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ferrari not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ferrari wants to stand and escape but Brook is having none of it.

Ferrari has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brook can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Brook is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Brook is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Brook is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ferrari being controlled here, momentarily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Brook drops back looking for a leg! Ferrari is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ferrari manages to kick Brook off! Brook jumps back into Ferrari's guard.

Brook thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Brook is looking to work some ground and pound but Ferrari has wrist control.
Brook pushing down on Ferrari's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Ferrari is defending against the submission attempts here by Brook.
Ferrari really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brook. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brook is working for a submission of some sort.
Brook is thwarting Ferrari's attempts to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Brook is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ferrari is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ferrari is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Brook pulls his head out easily.
Brook not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ferrari gets full guard.
Brook throws a big right hand that misses.

Brook drops back looking for a leg! Ferrari is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ferrari manages to kick Brook off! Brook jumps back into Ferrari's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Brook is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ferrari working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Brook.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ferrari is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Brook passes into half guard.
Brook is thwarting Ferrari's attempts to control the position.
Ferrari tries to get to full guard but Brook has control of the leg.
Brook looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ferrari with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Brook is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ferrari sees it coming and defends easily.
Brook has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Brook with good strikes from the mount here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brook trying to control but Ferrari is having none of it.
Ferrari takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Brook tries to control but Ferrari wriggling away.

Brook has hold of Ferrari's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ferrari manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Ferrari stops Brook from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Brook pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Ferrari is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ferrari is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Brook is staying active.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Prince Brook dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Prince Brook's cut.
That's time! Brook's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Brook fails to land the takedown.
Ferrari looks to score with a jab to the body but Brook is just out of range.
Ferrari stuffs the takedown attempt from Brook. Brook gets slowly back to his feet.
Ferrari connects with a high kick.

Brook closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ferrari to the mat! Ferrari manages to get full guard.

Brook drops back looking for a leg! Ferrari is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ferrari manages to kick Brook off! Brook jumps back into Ferrari's guard.
Brook passes into half guard.

Brook has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Ferrari defend it? Brook steps over the head and cranks it - Ferrari is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Brook!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Prince Brook!
Prince Brook is the new lightweight champion!
