PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Dardar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dardar comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Trial by Fire kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse Dardar!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin throws a looping overhand right but Dardar ducks down to avoid it.
Dardar avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Martin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Dardar keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Martin.
Martin looks to land a combination but Dardar avoids it well.
Dardar lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Dardar lands with a good body shot.
Martin misses with a jab, cross combination.
Dardar takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

A looping hook to the body misses from Dardar. Martin does a little dance to reset his feet.

Dardar jabs Martin right on the nose. Martin blinks but takes it well.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Martin wants to control from the top but Dardar keeps moving.
Martin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Martin is looking to work some ground and pound but Dardar has wrist control.
Dardar is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Martin is controlling him.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Martin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Martin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Martin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Dardar wants to stand but Martin is controlling the position.
Martin postures up and lands a big shot to Dardar's brow.
Martin throws a strike but Dardar rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Martin manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Dardar really wants to buck Martin off and get back to his feet.
Martin throws some wild stikes that Dardar manages to avoid easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Martin throwing strikes here but Dardar is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Martin is trying to control here but Dardar has managed to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Martin will probably get the nod.

Dardar chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Martin bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Dardar's head.
Martin avoids the body shot from Dardar.
Martin fails to land with a series of punches.
Dardar is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Martin rather than just go for the knockout.
Martin connects with a leg kick. Dardar looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Martin feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Dardars jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dardar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Martin circles away quickly and effectively.

and Martin counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dardar's guard now.
Martin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dardar swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Martin wants to stand but Dardar has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Martin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Dardar looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Dardar looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Dardar!

Dardar stands up and beckons Martin to his feet.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Dardar.
Dardar does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
A slapping body kick lands there for Martin.

Martin shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Dardar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Dardar throws a push kick but Martin slaps the foot to one side.

Martin walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Dardar checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Martin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Dardar.

Jesse Dardar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Martin has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Dardar finds it's way round the side to connect with Martin's head.

Martin tries for a takedown. No joy.

Martin is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Dardar can't fight it off and eventually Martin manages to take the fight to the floor. Dardar looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Dardar utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Dardar is looking to stand up but Martin isn't so interested in that idea.
Martin throws an elbow that misses. Dardar uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Martin's guard. Nice move by Dardar!
Martin wants to improve his position but instead Dardar has moved into half guard.

Dardar will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Martin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Martin lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dardar on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
