PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miki Peric (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gilberto Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva has chosen Train Like A Pro, Show Them Your A Champion as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Miki Peric!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gilberto Silva!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Vladimir Khabensky and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peric gets caught flat footed, as Silva shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Silva stays in close to Peric's body and controls the position.
Silva stands up over Peric, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Peric looking to control.
Silva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva stays in close to Peric's body and controls the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gilberto Silva was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Silva gets a takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Silva slips a nice elbow through Peric's hands, connecting with Peric's forehead.

Peric is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Silva trying to pass the guard but Peric defending well.
Silva missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Silva throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Silva looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
It looks like Silva might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Silva is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Silva is controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Peric shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silva napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Silva is not content to let Peric control the position.
Silva struggling a bit here.
Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Peric. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Peric wants to control for a moment but Silva uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Peric wants to take a breather but Silva is having none of it.
Peric is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Peric seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Silva does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Miki Peric wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Peric fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Silva to the ground. Peric is now in Silva's guard.
Peric wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.

Peric is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Peric wants to pass the guard but Silva is keeping the position.
Silva keeping moving, preventing Peric from controlling successfully.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gilberto Silva dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Peric trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Silva tries to hold on but Peric pushes him away.

Silva is in all sorts of trouble here.

Peric looking to ground and pound but Silva is blocking nicely.

Peric jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Silva manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Peric wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Miki Peric wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Peric shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Silva's guard.
Peric has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Silva is proving hard to escape from.

Silva is controlling Peric's posture.
Peric with a flurry of punches that miss.
Silva keeping moving, preventing Peric from controlling successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Silva darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Peric wants to control but Silva is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva is taking a breather. Peric says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Peric is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Silva's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Silva's back!
Peric wants to control but Silva is keeping busy.
Peric is trying to stick to Silva's back but Silva is turning into Peric. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Peric's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Silva.
Peric controls Silva momentarily but Silva frees himself.
Silva postures up in Peric's guard and throws a big left but Peric blocks it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Peric has momentary wrist control but Silva slips an elbow through the middle.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Silva throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Peric works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Silva controls from within his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Silva checks a leg kick.
Gilberto Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silva scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Silva wants to pass the guard but Peric is defending well.
Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Peric keeps working.

Silva passes to full mount!
Peric wants to control but Silva is having none of it.
Peric might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Peric is trying desperately to improve position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Silva landing punches.
Silva takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Peric is trying to stand.

Peric slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Peric tries to roll over but Silva keeps him under control.
Peric is trying to maintain the position but Silva is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Silva moves out of range of the body kick from Peric.
Silva misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Peric.
Silva wants to clinch.

Peric throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Silva was covering up waiting for the punch and Peric finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Silva will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Peric thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Peric stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Miki Peric.
Well Peric has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
