PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Johnsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raffael Massaro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raffael Massaro told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jim Johnsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Daniel Cesar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnsson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Massaro pinned against the ropes. Massaro gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Massaro changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johnsson tries to avoid it but Massaro manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johnsson to the ground. Johnsson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Massaro shoots in but no luck this time.

Johnsson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Massaro tries to roll over but Johnsson keeps him under control.

Johnsson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Massaro has managed to free his arm - good work.

Massaro makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Massaro shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Johnsson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Massaro's guard now.
Jim Johnsson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raffael Massaro.
Johnsson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Johnsson trying to control but Massaro is working from the bottom.
Massaro trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Massaro can't keep his opponent in guard - Johnsson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Johnsson prevents Massaro from standing back up.
Massaro wants to get back to full guard but Johnsson has mounted him!
Johnsson prevents Massaro from getting the reversal.

Johnsson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Massaro to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Massaro shrugs it off.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Johnsson has hold of Massaro's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Massaro manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Massaro wants to hold on but Johnsson pushes him away.

Johnsson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Massaro has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Johnsson has isolated one of Massaro's arms. Massaro looking to fight him off but Johnsson twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
