Cornish's entrance music is I Came To Play by Step Zero. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeremy Cornish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tokui Kano!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kano swings widly with a right hand

and Cornish counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kano is looking for a sweep. Cornish is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kano can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cornish is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Kano is refusing to be controlled, as Cornish sits in half guard.
Kano makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kano.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Cornish stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kano swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kano wants to control but Cornish passes easily into half guard.

Cornish seems to be looking for submissions.

Cornish is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kano has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kano tries to roll over but Cornish keeps him under control.
Cornish seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kano does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kano really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cornish. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cornish is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kano defends it well.
Cornish works his way into side control.

Cornish looks up at the clock and then as Kano takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Cornish smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Kano is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Cornish is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jeremy Cornish dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cornish displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kano.
Kano tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cornish swivels and escapes.
Nice sprawl there from Cornish as Kano shoots in.
Jeremy Cornish has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tokui Kano.

and Cornish makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

and Cornish counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kano's guard now.

Kano is breathing heavily.

Cornish pushing down on Kano's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Cornish lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Cornish works his foot free and advances to mount.
Cornish is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kano can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Cornish trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cornish is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Kano with him. Kano is trying to defend but Cornish has an arm under the chin now! Kano grimaces and is forced to tap out!
