PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joao Paulo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Bordin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Paulo might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Eye of the Tiger. Paulo has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bordin fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bordin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Paulo but Paulo pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Paulo misses the jab.
Paulo is breathing heavily.
Bordin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Paulo sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Joao Paulo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauricio Bordin.
Bordin shoots in looking for a takedown but Paulo manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bordin's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Bordin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Paulo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bordin somewhat.

Bordin has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Paulo finds it's way round the side to connect with Bordin's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bordin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Paulo is fending him off so far but Bordin persists. Nope, Paulo circles away and we're back to standing.

Paulo takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Bordin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bordin shoots for a double leg takedown but Paulo sprawls well. He's pushed Bordin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bordin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Paulo tries to bum rush Bordin with a series of wild strikes but Bordin uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The fight stays on the outside here - Bordin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Bordin throws a head kick but Paulo moves out of range.
Paulo thuds his right hand into Bordin's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Bordin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Paulo paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Paulo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bordin.

Bordin moves in looking to clinch but Paulo pushes him off.
Bordin connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Nice jab there from Paulo.
Bordin with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Paulo to score with a decent uppercut.
Horrible takedown by Bordin or perhaps it was just good defense by Paulo which made him look bad.

Bordin walks into a stiff left hand from Paulo.
Paulo misses with a double jab.
Paulo pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Paulo slaps away a takedown attempt from Bordin, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A nice inside leg kick there by Bordin. That's going to slow Paulo down.
Paulo works the jab nicely.
Bordin takes one on the chin but seems OK.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bordin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's time! Paulo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Paulo missing with a left hand there. Bordin was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Paulo stuffs the takedown.
Paulo misses with a looping left.

Bordin drives through and clinches with Paulo against the cage.
Paulo jumps guard but Bordin turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Paulo tries to pull guard but Bordin holds him up against the cage and eventually Paulo drops back down to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Bordin.

Bordin jumps into guard, dragging Paulo to the mat.
Paulo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bordin is proving hard to escape from.
Paulo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Paulo won't allow Bordin to sweep him here.

Bordin had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Paulo defends it easily.

Bordin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Paulo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bordin is trying to keep Paulo in close.
Paulo wants to stand and escape but instead Bordin has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Bordin drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Bordin seems to have locked his on tight now - Paulo screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Bordin, as he picks up the win!
