PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thracian Spartacus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Derrick Ryan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thracian Spartacus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Derrick Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Eliza Hachem.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Spartacus swivels and escapes.
Thracian Spartacus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ryan shoots in but no luck this time.
Good exchange - Ryan coming out on top.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ryan enables Spartacus to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ryan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Ryan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Spartacus will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Ryan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Spartacus gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Spartacus postures up and lands a big shot to Ryan's brow.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Ryan has his foot on Spartacus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Spartacus works his way back into a safe position though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Spartacus is working Ryan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Ryan has momentary wrist control but Spartacus slips an elbow through the middle.
Spartacus has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ryan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spartacus can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Ryan should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Ryan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Spartacus!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spartacus holds on to Ryan as tight as he can, avoiding damage.

Ryan swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Spartacus is now in Ryan's guard. A big mistake from Ryan there, giving up the dominant position!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Spartacus's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Ryan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ryan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Spartacus has managed to free his arm - good work.

Spartacus lands a couple of sideways elbows.

Ryan seems to be looking for submissions.

Spartacus wants to improve his position but Ryan is controlling well.
Spartacus keeping hold of Ryan's head, controlling as best he can.

Ryan is working for a kimura but Spartacus is defending it quite comfortably.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ryan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Spartacus knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Spartacus is looking to control Ryan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Spartacus avoid being mounted?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Spartacus looks up at the clock and then as Ryan takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Spartacus smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Spartacus scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Ryan to see if he's OK.
Spartacus lands a nice forearm strike.
Spartacus is working Ryan over with some ground and pound from side control.
Spartacus cracks Ryan with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Spartacus immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Ryan is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Spartacus!
