Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joao Pires!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dusty WarHorse!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Winston Howard and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

WarHorse feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Pires working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. WarHorse doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. WarHorse manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Pires avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Pires might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Pires had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. WarHorse defends it easily.

Pires is looking for a triangle but WarHorse pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

WarHorse is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pires is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

WarHorse is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pires rolls, trying to escape but WarHorse keeps control of the position.

WarHorse has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Pires.
WarHorse scores with strikes from the back.

WarHorse is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Pires knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Pires for a finish.

WarHorse is trying to stick to Pires's back but Pires is turning into WarHorse. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in WarHorse's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Pires.

Piresis looking to pass into half guard but WarHorse pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now WarHorse is in guard.

Pires looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
WarHorse has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pires is proving hard to escape from.

Pires is looking for a triangle but WarHorse pushes his legs off easily.
Pires has momentary wrist control but WarHorse slips an elbow through the middle.
Pires is trying to control the position from the bottom.
WarHorse is looking to stand up but Pires won't let him.
Pires keeping moving, preventing WarHorse from controlling successfully.

WarHorse loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Pires escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. WarHorse gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
WarHorse really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pires. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
WarHorse is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Pires is looking for a triangle but WarHorse pushes his legs off easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
WarHorse controls from within his opponent's guard.
WarHorse's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Pires looking for subs off his back but WarHorse has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dusty WarHorse dominated that round.
That's time! Pires's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

WarHorse thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Pires looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
WarHorse slows the pace down in half guard.
WarHorse is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Pires reverses the position - he's now on top in WarHorse's guard.
WarHorse is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
