Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Buck Ewing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santino Carelli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carelli has chosen La Vittoria č Mia as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Buck Ewing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Santino Carelli!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Bruno Lombardi and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ewing uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Carelli has time to react.
Carelli takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Carelli shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ewing manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Ewing keeping moving, preventing Carelli from controlling successfully.
Ewing working a defensive guard but Carelli manages to pass into side control anyway.
Ewing is looking for a sweep.
Ewing wants to control but Carelli postures up.
Ewing is looking for a sweep.
Carelli tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Carelli is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carelli is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ewing is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Ewing is not content to let Carelli control the position.

Carelli thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carelli looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ewing sneaks back into half guard.

Carelli is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Carelli seems to be looking for submissions.

Carelli seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ewing does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Carelli seems to be working for a kimura but Ewing defends the submission attempt.

Ewing manages to get to full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Carelli drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ewing dives on top into guard.
Ewing has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Ewing wants to control from the top but Carelli keeps moving.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Carelli can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ewing controls the pace.
Ewing throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Carelli works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Ewing avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Carelli working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ewing doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ewing manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Carelli controls Ewing momentarily but Ewing frees himself.
Ewing tries to free his leg and advance position but Carelli is retaining full guard.
Carelli is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Ewing will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Carelli had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ewing defends it easily.
Carelli controls Ewing momentarily but Ewing frees himself.
Carelli can't keep his opponent in guard - Ewing advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ewing tries a head kick but it misses.
Ewing moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like Santino Carelli has been cut.
Carelli chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Ewing can pounce on him.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carelli misses with a low kick.
Buck Ewing is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ewing dips to his left and cracks Carelli with an uppercut!
Ewing misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Carelli walks into a left hand.

Carelli drives through with a takedown into Ewing's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Ewing looking to control.

Carelli is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Ewing is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Ewing looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Ewing not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Ewing can't keep his opponent in guard - Carelli advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Carelli is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ewing trying to hold on to Carelli's head to control him but Carelli postures up.
Carelli is keen to just control but Ewing is a slippery customer.

Ewing is defending against the submission attempts here by Carelli.
Ewing is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ewing looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carelli is one step ahead there.

Carelli is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ewing is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ewing has escaped and now he's on top!

Carelli escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ewing gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Santino Carelli has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ewing looking to sit in guard and control but Carelli gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ewing tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Carelli passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Ewing wants to control but Carelli postures up.
Ewing gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Carelli is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Carelli is looking for a kimura here.

Carelli is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ewing is just riding it out for now. Carelli eventually gives up the hold.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's time! Ewing's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Ewing is looking to control Carelli's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ewing avoid being mounted?

The ref stands the fighters back up. Buck Ewing wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Ewing lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Carelli shoots in and bounces Ewing off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Carelli stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ewing swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Carelli has gone for a leg lock! Ewing slips out almost immediately though and dives into Carelli's guard.

Carelli has an active guard here but Ewing has managed to pass into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ewing passes the guard and advances to mount!
Carelli is wriggling around trying to escape.

Ewing with the ground and pound from mount.
Carelli is looking to improve his position but Ewing isn't that keen on the idea.
Ewing misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Carelli tries to lock up and control but Ewing gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Carelli is squirming around, avoiding Ewing's attempts to control the action.
Ewing prevents Carelli from getting the reversal.
Carelli takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Carelli gets back to half guard.
Ewing trying to pass the guard but Carelli defending well.

Carelli wants to get back to full guard.
Ewing tries to pass the half guard into mount. Carelli knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ewing throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Carelli is not content to let Ewing control the position.
Ewing is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Carelli is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ewing wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carelli keeps working.
Ewing is looking to stall here but Carelli recovers full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Buck Ewing.
I think Ewing has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
